I read an article this morning that's worth a look at: Why Being a Jerk can be a Valuable Life Skill. In my experience, I've been taught to treat others with kindness. Everyone (and I mean everyone) deserves to be treated with kindness, but many times we come across a bad apple in the barrel. It might be at work, at the gym, in social circles, or even in families.
This article got me thinking, because I know I need to work on my confidence. Yet, I still want to treat other people with kindness. I hope others will treat me kindly, but that isn't always the case. I don't want to bully my way to be on top of the totem pole of life.
I don't think being a bully is the answer. So, maybe a-holes get ahead in life as far as careers go, but at what cost? Do nice guys really finish last, or do nice guys win in the end? Can a person really be an "ethical asshole?"
